Jericho - Vanity
This incredible kitchen and scullery was awarded Highly Commended at the Trends International Design Awards 2019.
This simple yet sleek kitchen, was designed for a young family in their contemporary rural home. The exterior of the house was completed by builder Emandee Homes, is a mix of dark-stained cedar and light bagged brick. The designer wanted to bring the feeling of raw natural materials into the home, to make a connection between the indoors and the outdoors. She also wanted to introduce an industrial reference to the space.
As is often the case with modern kitchens, the centrepiece is the kitchen island. Here a blackened steel framework introduces the desired industrial feel, and the vertical stained cedar is a nod to the exterior cladding. A single sheet of beautifully grained highly polished Super White granite, adds a touch of luxury and nature – its grey veins pulling the whole look together.
Along the back wall the modern subway-tile splashback, has been given a modern twist by laying the tiles vertically instead of horizontally (another reference to the vertical cedar) and the blacked steel from the island is repeated as a custom housing for the rangehood. A Caesarstone work surface in ‘Sleek Concrete’ continues the industrial look, and is an excellent choice of material for this hard-working part of the kitchen. Blum servo-drive electric opening drawers achieve the desired clean lines by eliminating the need for handles.
A small scullery off to side of the kitchen houses small appliances, offering additional storage as well as an excellent preparation area that can be hidden away with the slide of a door. The desk area and laundry cabinetry were also completed by Carlielle.
